Chip Royce, Flywheel Advisors

Chip Royce founded Flywheel Advisors in 2014 in the North Carolina Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill). We provide advisory, consulting, and fractional executive services to companies across the United States and overseas.

Leveraging our deep experience from startups to Fortune 500, coupled with proprietary processes, Flywheel Advisors helps our clients expand their go-to-market strategy, building new partnerships and indirect channels, capturing growth and reducing risk.

Royce is an early pioneer in internet technologies, online consumer media, and online marketing. He purchased the first internet search ad in 1997 on Yahoo! (Wikipedia) (BTW – That keyword was ‘golf’)

Over Chip’s career, he’s advised or been part of management teams developing successful go-to-market strategies, building indirect channel/distribution partnerships & strategic alliances, with full P&L ownership, and navigating successful outcomes for shareholders.

Royce has been a part of winning companies ranging from global Fortune 50 corporations to early-stage startups. Before founding Flywheel Advisors, Chip served in the Global Alliances group for Lenovo. Royce led the growth of Lenovo’s notebook PC business negotiating a $700MM agreement to add AMD processors. He also managed business development and partnerships for the company’s consumer PC division, driving alignment with partners to support the worldwide launch of the company’s “Idea” branded consumer PCs.

Before Lenovo, Chip Royce was with Dell Technologies. He grew their US Consumer Division’s Alternate Channels business to over $70M, selling PCs and peripherals through retail partners, including Costco, QVC, HSN, and eBay. Later, he led the division’s strategic alliance group. In this role, he negotiated co-marketing and incentive programs with Intel, Microsoft, and others worth $200MM.

Before Dell, Chip held various business development and product marketing roles with subsidiaries of the internet investment/holding company CMGi and InterZine Productions (now part of Time, Inc.).

Chip is an advocate for technology entrepreneurship. Royce mentors early and mid-stage companies through various programs, including Techstars and RevTech Labs. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors for NC Tech and previously held board roles with North Carolina Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED).

Chip earned a Master of Business Administration in International Business from the University of Miami and a graduate of Boston University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Political Science).
